Performance:
I am an Improvisational Pianist based in Austin, TX. My Performances are a Triangle of Original Compositions, Covers spanning the 70's to the 00's, and pockets of Improvised Music “In” and “For” the moment. Sometimes I Sing... depending on the occasion.
Background
I'm a self taught Musician that began my professional career playing keyboards with a slew of bands in the early 2000's Philadelphia Music Scene. In 2008, I started recording and producing music which lead to learning a multitude of instruments and transcending into a multi-instrumentalist / recording artist / songwriter / producer. From 2010-2017 I embarked on a solo project which featured numerous artistic collaborations and led to 2 full length albums. In 2016 in what became the projects Grand Finale; I completed the “100 Songs in 100 Days Project” in which 100 Songs were written, recorded, and produced in as many days. The Project involved collaborations with more than 60 of Austin's local musicians. In 2020, during the pandemic; I left Austin, TX for work in Pennsylvania. Little did I know I moved into a place teeming with Lethal levels of Radiation. This began a 4year long Dance with Death that diminished my ability to play instruments and use the studio, and over 2 years everything deteriorated and disintegrated to the point of being completely disabled. By the time the Problem was properly diagnosed I was in full endocrine disruption and 10 of my 12 organ systems were in some sort of failure. I share that story with you because as the World and my ability to Live in it diminished to nothingness; the one thing I clung to was my one true source of Joy and my first Love...the Piano. Through my sickness, and the long recovery process of rebuilding my body, the Piano became my source of refuge, meditation, elation, and escape. In the Darkest of times it became my greatest source of Inspiration and the thing that kept me pushing to the next day. I vowed that if I survived this great ordeal I would build the Foundation of whatever Life comes afterwards from that Great Love of the Piano! From Surviving the Great Trials and my new lease on Life; The Musical persona of Oscar Sun is Born! Here to Serve the Community and Culture with the Greatest Gift I have to offer... the Power of Music!
The Large pool of Cover Songs I perform are all songs from my Life's Playlist throughout the Years. Through thick and thin, good times and bad; these are the songs that became a part of me. My intention is to either give your ears something familiar on the piano in a way you've never heard it before; or (if you're not familiar) to introduce you to amazing songs from another time and era. As an Artist, I feel it's important to carry the torch for all of the music and artists that that have moved us through the years...keeping the songs relevant and alive as they move through the generations.
